SUMMARY:Know Your Environmental Rights - EMEN & ERCS
DESCRIPTION:Book your free ticket now! \nThis free event is a collaboration between EMEN\, the Ethnic Minority Environmental Network\, and ERCS\, the Environmental Rights Centre for Scotland. \nEnvironmental justice is about ensuring a fair distribution of environmental benefits and burdens. It acknowledges that marginalised groups and communities are more exposed to environmental burdens (such as pollution\, proximity to landfill and the impacts of climate change); and have less access to environmental benefits (such as access to good quality green space). \n It also recognises that these groups are least responsible for contributing to environmental damage on local and global scales. Yet\, they have fewer resources and opportunities to challenge harmful practices and protect the environment now\, and for future generations. \nThis informal discussion\, including a delicious free lunch\, will seek to prepare us for the challenges we face in the years ahead in dealing with environmental justice. \nKnow your rights – and learn how you can help to push for a just environmental transition. \nBook your free ticket now!

SUMMARY:Energy Strategy and Just Transition Plan Consultation Event
DESCRIPTION:With the Scottish Government’s support and collaboration\, EMEN organised this engagement session on the upcoming Energy Strategy and Just Transition Plan for Scotland. \nJust transitions are becoming more visible around the world on a business\, regional\, city and national level yet it’s still rare to hear of Just Transitions in terms of human rights. Climate mitigation efforts will have serious impacts on our basic human rights and inequalities across sectors. In order to bring this to light\, this session demonstrated how any conceptualisation of tackling the dual crises of climate change and extreme inequality needs to be considered a human right to give workers the ability to hold governments and employers to account over climate inaction and impacts on their livelihoods. \nWe had a day full of energy strategy discussions in terms of human rights and equalities which has reminded us of the depth of work that still needs to be done to ensure climate mitigation efforts are fairer than we had imagined before.
